Words of Inspiration: Attention All Virgins!

I’m sure at one stage or the other we have all read or heard about the parable of the ten virgins. Today, a group of us were meditating on this passage, and there are so many things I came to realize in this passage and want to share with you here, but if I shared everything, it would all be too many things at once. I’m just going to share one thing that may not be so obvious when reading the parable.

All the virgins had the oil, which symbolizes the Holy Spirit. So, all of them had the Holy Spirit working in their lives, including the five foolish virgins. They were all of God, no doubt about that, because all were waiting for the Bridegroom, who was the Lord Jesus. And, the mere fact that the foolish virgins wanted so desperately to meet the Groom, shows that they cared for Him. But, there was a difference between the wise and foolish virgins. The five wise virgins had the extra oil. What does that mean? Don’t jump to the next paragraph yet… Think about it for a second. What did the extra oil symbolize?

The extra oil symbolized the baptism with the Holy Spirit. While the foolish virgins were of God and wanted to be with the Bridegroom, they were not baptized with the Holy Spirit, so their oil ran out at some point. Yet the five wise ones had the extra oil. When their lamps went off, they had the extra oil that enabled them to light their lamps again. That means, when troubles came, the extra oil enabled them to overcome. You may be doing everything in your power to please God. Maybe you are active in the church – you are a soul-winner, you’re in the Sisterhood, you have been a faithful member for a long time, but if you are not BAPTISED with the Holy Spirit, your days with God are numbered. Your oil will run out at some point. Don’t think it won’t happen to you, because it will. The Bible says so.

Friend, you need the extra oil. You CANNOT be saved without this extra oil. You can’t be saved without being baptized with the Holy Spirit. Seeking this baptism needs to be a priority in your life! You need to desire this more than anything in your life, because I repeat, if you don’t have the Holy Spirit, the reality is your time with God is numbered. Trust me about that! Don’t be foolish. Don’t sleep. The Bridegroom is on His way. Get the extra oil while you still have the chance.

I never saw the extra oil as being the baptism in the Holy Spirit, but it makes complete sense.

I also liked what you said about refilling the oil when it runs out. Certainly troubles will come but we need to refill our jars with more oil.

Thanks

I also never saw the 'extra oil' as the baptism of the Holy Spirit either.

Reading this post, it brought back memories of when the pastor would always say, 'if you do not have the Holy Spirit, sooner or later, you will leave'

This scared me so much, because I did not want to leave God, this was when I began to understand the importance of the Holy Spirit.

But, I have to make sure the jar is filled, because I do not want the oil to dry out and cease.

I have to say what these two ladies before me said also, i didn't know that the "extra oil" was the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
But you know we must ALWAYS keep refiling our oil because when it runs out its gone and we will have to start all over again. We must always keep seeking.

That's so true mrs moti! The holy spirit is something essential, we need it, is not something that is added on! The Holy Spirit should be our priority, but sometimes we forget the importance!
